Karate-ka making a difference
Sensei Funakoshi wrote that karate always stands on the side of justice. It is with this in mind that Martial Heart seeks to improves the lives of others through karate, the art we love that has made a difference across the world in the lives of so many.
Martial Heart facilitates the collection and donation of karate suits, equipment and protective gear to small dojos in under-served communities in South Africa as well as Zimbabwe.
Through supporting dojos based in under-served communities, we can change lives.
About Us
The Inspiration
Martial Heart was originally inspired when our dojo (Goju Ryu Karate Centre) donated our mats to a small dojo in Epworth, Zimbabwe. Since then, we have been collecting and donating karate suits, equipment and protective gear to small dojos around South Africa as well as Zimbabwe.
Our goal is to help these dojos serve their communities, where the difference they make in youth upliftment is immeasurable. Whether it is facilitating the collection and delivery of karate gear, helping the instructors attend seminars to improve their knowledge, or assisting in the creation of an online presence to help them grow, Martial Heart is here to help.
How You Can Help
Nominate a Dojo
Do you know a dojo in need? Is there an instructor you think deserves the extra support? If we don’t know, we can’t help! Drop us a message and tell us all about a dojo you think is doing great work with minimal resources.
Collect Suits and Gear
Every second-hand suit, every set of kumite gear and used equipment can be given second life and greater purpose. If you are based in the Joburg area, I will personally collect from your dojo and arrange delivery. If outside Joburg, I’ll pay for Postnet counter to counter delivery, or put you in touch with a dojo in need in your area.
Dojo Outreach
If you are an instructor that wants to help other instructors, we’ll help you make contact with a dojo in need, or invite you to teach at our seminars for grassroots dojos. We are also always on the lookout for black belts to help mentor and assist .
